2025 KRESGE ARTIST FELLOW

I am beyond excited to announce that I am a recipient of the 2025 Kresge Artist Fellowship!

I have dreamt of winning this award since it was first offered in 2008. I applied every cycle, believing that one day my artistic practice would get the recognition it deserves. I look forward to sharing updates throughout the next year!

Plein Air Painting

Plein Air Landscapes by the Unusual Suspects”, a show organized by one of my favorite Detroit-area artists, Rick Vian, opened with a private reception on Sunday, June 20. I took the opportunity to paint a few landscapes in the same black and white color palette that I’ve been working in, by setting up an easel outside my studio. 1. Grandma’s Ranger 2. 333 Nocturne 3. Triumph at the Stu Each is Oil on Canvas, 6”x12”

“Are You Sleeping? Neo-Traditional Nursery Rhymes” by Rhonda Greene

I had the honor of illustrating two selections in this new book by Rhonda Greene, available now through Heritage Works. The book is available for purchase online through the Heritage Works website, or in-person at the Green Garage located at 4444 Second Avenue in Detroit.

"Are You Sleeping? is a book of truth and beauty. Stunning paintings and drawings accompany Rhonda Greene’s devastating nursery rhymes that pivot on racism and inequity in Black and Brown American experiences. These are our new essential ‘classic’ rhymes, born of pain and the tenacity of love and survival.”  - Jan Freeman, Poet, founder of Paris Press
